About this talk
In this presentation, we will attempt a brief historical overview of the concept of design and its meanings in different historical periods, from the beginnings of its use in Italian disegno to the bauhaus era. First of all, we will present various elements that make up the historical development of the term, the content of the concept of design. Particular emphasis will be placed on the period of the royal workshops of the 17th century, the guilds, the development of trade, industrialisation and the expansion of consumption and demand for consumer goods, the rationalisation of production, the emergence of new specialisations accompanying industrialisation and, finally, the reactions to it.
